Musings of An Old Man

The Smartest Thing

I’ve done a lot of things in my life and some of them were pretty smart.

BUT!

The smartest thing that I ever did was marry Phyllis, and be able to spend my life with her. I won’t take all of the credit for myself, because my smartness was aided by a whole lot of good luck!

We were both in the right place at the right time! And we’re exposed to each other enough so that we both could see that we belonged together.

The other smart things that I have done, pale into utter insignificance by comparison.

A little jingle that I wrote for Phyllis as a Valentine tells it:

The smartest thing I’ve ever done

Was marry you, cause you’re the one

Who’s filled my life with happiness

And hope and promise and I guess

It’s been a happy trip for you

Because I know you’ve loved it too

For all these decades my dear wife

You’ve given meaning to my life

And now what I want most to do

Is tell you, how much, I love you
